#ChartoftheDay: Food Price in Nigeria remains high for Past Year

Sweet potato, beans (black eye), tomato, beans (brown) and groundnut oil are the 5 food items with the highest year on year change.  

In February 2022, the average price of food items in Nigeria has increased considerably when compared to the average price of food items in February 2021 with a total percentage change of 46.03%.

Nigeria’s inflation is the 16th highest in the world with a total figure of 15.7%. Nigeria’s food inflation currently stands at 17.11%, it stood at 17.33% in February 2021. Showing a percentage change of a negative 1.27%. 

On a month on month basis, there was a percentage increase of 3.34% compared to January 2022. Tomato, wheat flour, bread, sweet potato had the highest month on month percentage increase.

However, Frozen chicken, catfish, mudfish, beef and smoked catfish were the top five food items with the highest food inflation pressure in February 2022.
