Samuel Ajala, a journalist with the leading media and data analytics organization, Dataphyte, has been selected for Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue (BETD) 2022 media fellowship program.

The organizers of the media fellowship – Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, in cooperation with Bundesverband Erneuerbare Energie (BEE) e.V. – communicated the information in a personal mail sent to the journalist.

Mr Samuel, who reports climate change, energy transition, and sustainable development goals(SDGs), will physically attend the all-expenses-paid international conference, borne by GIZ in Berlin, Germany.

The German Federal Government Foreign Office and the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action will jointly host the eighth Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue (BETD) in Berlin at the Federal Foreign Office on 29 and 30 March 2022 – From Ambition to Action.

Over the last eight years, the BETD has become the prime international conference on the global energy transition.

According to the organisers, the committee selected Dataphyte’s journalist due to his outstanding application despite the process being very competitive.

He was invited as one of the 5 BETD Media Fellows selected globally to discuss the latest technological developments in clean energy and best practices in policymaking with leading energy experts and lawmakers online and in-person in the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin, Germany.

As the only Nigerian in-person media fellow, he will be reporting on the conference live and panel discussions for Dataphyte.

“Your work and contribution to the BETD 2022 are of high value, as reporting on the international energy transition and raising awareness of the opportunities of renewable energy and energy efficiency are crucial to meet the Paris Climate Agreement’s targets,” says the organisers.

Speaking to Samuel Ajala, he expressed his joy over winning the fellowship program and described it as his effort of not giving up on his journalism career.

He said, “I am really excited about being selected for BETD 2022. I want to thank God and Dataphyte’s team for being there for me. When I was selected in 2020, I couldn’t travel out of the country because of the COVID-19 outbreak. So, I had to attend the fellowship program virtually.

“Seeing the call for application this year again, I just had to give it a shot by applying again, which I did on the last day of the deadline, and I even made a mistake with my salutation, which was corrected,” he added.

He said he looks forward to travelling to Berlin to provide a live reportage about energy transition in Africa and engage critical stakeholders on how clean energy can be accessible to the people at the grassroots level.
