$3.4 Million

Ruqqayah Ibrahim, the 9th witness for the corruption trial of Mr Maina testified on Tuesday saying that he bought two houses in Abuja for $3.4 million. The EFCC Investigator added that Maina paid for the houses in cash. The houses in question are located in Life camp and Jabi. Mr Abdulrasheed Maina is a former pension chief on trial for corruption and illegal moving of government money.

The EFCC also reported how Mr Maina opened two accounts in UBA and Fidelity with his relatives as signatories. Said accounts were allegedly used for money laundering, according to the anti-corruption agency. The money would be paid into these accounts cash and then either transferred to his accounts or withdrawn in cash. The judge adjourned the case till December 9.

5 Resolutions

On Tuesday, the National Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had a meeting which culminated into five resolutions. They are: Approval of 6 months tenure extension of the Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee led by Mai Mala Buni; Grant of waivers to new and potential members (meaning that they can contest for elections without membership); Expulsion of Ntufam Hilliard Eta for disobeying the NEC directives; An immediate dissolution of party organs at zonal, local government and state levels and also the reconstitution of the dissolved EXCOs; Disapproval of the call for Mr President’s resignation.

206 Million

Amid the financial decline, the only thing increasing is the population of Nigeria. According to the National Population Commission, the national population currently stands at 206 million. This number, however, wasn’t gotten from a census, but from an estimated projection. Noting that Nigeria has not carried out a census in 14 years, Nasir Kwarra, the Chairman of the National Population Commission held that only the President could give such a direct, which should be soon.
