ChartoftheDay: Cost of Nigeria’s Insecurity; 915 Killed and 571 Kidnapped in January 2022

One thousand, four hundred and eight-six (1486)  Nigerians were victims of the insecurity situation in the country in January 2022. Of this figure, killings accounted for 62% as 915 people lost their lives while the remaining 571 (38%) were victims of kidnapping

The North-Central region accounted for the cumulative highest number of casualties in the month. A total of 729 persons were killed or kidnapped in the month of January,  314 people were killed while 415 people were victims of kidnapping.

The North-West recorded the highest number of deaths across all regions, accounting for 38% (347) of total deaths in the country in January.

The South-South region had the lowest number of fatalities in the month. The region recorded 15 deaths in the month.

While some states like Gombe, Bauchi and the FCT, recorded zero casualties in the month, Niger state recorded the highest deaths and kidnappings among the states.
